The Silver Lake Heritage Trust has entered the appeal phase of our lawsuit to preserve Taix French Restaurant, Echo Park's oldest and most popular gathering spot. Our case aims to hold our local City Councilmembers accountable for their abuse of our preservation laws, as they falsely claim to be "saving" this iconic neighborhood gem by demolishing it!

ISSUE

Taix Restaurant and Lounge is in danger of being demolished for a grossly out-of-scale new development.


ACTION

SLHT recognizes the value of these iconic places and is actively working to promote thoughtful design and incorporate a plan that will protect our community's history.

GREEN SPACE:

A park-like area for urban recreation; Kite Hill is a refuge for our community & one the oldest natural habitats in the city.

ISSUE

The owner-developer plans to build an invasive mansion and roadway which would slice through this urban wildlife corridor.

ACTION

Our goal is to buy this land with the support of the Santa Monica Mountain Conservancy to preserve and keep public this vital area of Elysian Heights.

The Stires Staircase Bungalow Court is a prime example of this quintessential SoCal design for multi-family dwellings.

ISSUE

A developer wants to demolish this architectural gem to build a new apartment complex, strongly opposed by the community.

ACTION

An application by the SLHT is on track to preserve this iconic hillside court and rent-controlled housing in Echo Park.
